Fairfax Neonatal Associates, P.C. is seeking experienced and highly motivated, full-time Neonatal Nurse Practitioners to join our private practice group located in Northern Virginia. Our teams work in award-winning community hospitals in the Northern Virginia region to include Inova Fairfax, Inova Fair Oaks, Inova Alexandria and Inova Loudoun Hospitals. 
 
The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) provides clinical services for patients at contracted Hospitals in an ethical, professional, and timely manner. The NNP is responsible for attending high risk deliveries, providing newborn well baby care, performing the most up-to-date diagnostic and treatment procedures and assessing emergency and continuing care services for premature and critically ill infants under the supervision of the Neonatologist documented in collaborative agreement and conforming to privileges granted by Inova.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight of the care team to manage direct patient care for a specified patient population; seek and assimilate input from the team and parents; provide support and leadership in a shared decision-making process to develop the plan of care.  
  • Actively participate in family centered care and communicate in a professional and compassionate manner; refer patients to specialists and to relevant ancillary services as appropriate   
  • Communicate with families about treatment, prevention, and anticipatory guidance post discharge.   
  • Communicate clearly to residents, fellows, new providers and nurses’ expectations regarding patient updates, notification of significant clinical changes and effective documentation. Encourage questions from participants on the care team.   
  • Respond to FNA colleagues and Inova/community medical providers in a timely and respectful manner, adhere to work schedule, aid colleagues with high acuity patients, and anticipate patient and colleague needs when on call.
  • Using the FNA template in EPIC, document patient progress thoroughly, accurately, and concisely. Maintain an accurate and up to date problem list and plans for the management for each individual problem. Daily progress notes should convey to a consultant, staff, and parents the major issues, differential diagnoses, and management plans. 
  • Adequately and promptly complete all clinical documentation as required by JCAHO, other regulatory bodies and/or the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and FNA guidelines concerning clinical charge documentation.  
  • Provide sign out to colleagues, according to the FNA template, that prepares the covering physicians and NNPs to prioritize patients, follow through on actions needed and be prepared for contingencies and anticipate potential complications.?  
  • Expands clinical and professional knowledge base. Recognizes the importance of participation in professional organizations. Accepts personal responsibility for professional development and the maintenance of professional competence and credentials. Continuously participates in self-evaluations of advanced nursing practice skills to ensure competent clinical care and continued self-development.   
  • Identify problems related to patient services and make recommendations for improvement. Cooperate and participate in the development, implementation and revision of policies affecting medical practice, judgment, and quality of care. Participate as a member of special care teams, NICU clinical teams, Medical Staff and hospital committees as requested by FNA. NNP will participate and support corporate objectives.  
  • Service the well-baby population assigned to FNA. Provide supervision and consultation for the well-baby pediatrician, resident, NNP or NP. Provide direct care when necessary.  
  • Follow established bylaws, policies and procedures, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
